The Game

During game play, all regular Monopoly rules apply as adapted for the short, 90-minute game.

We hope the following will clarify some of those rules for you.

No playing as a team / No secret deals: All buy, sell, or trade deals are to be conducted in a public manner, i.e. there will be no secret deals "under the table". All players must have the opportunity to know what is being sold or traded, and at what price. All players must have the opportunity to offer a better price or trade.

In the event of a dispute over the value of opposing bids that involve non-cash items, the banker will determine (with assistance if necessary) whether the Deal is permissible.

Free parking
- A player will receive a prize on the first landing only.

No fines, fees, or other monies, are allowed in the center of board

Jail - A player must exit on their next turn by (1) using a “Get Out of Jail Free” card; or (2) rolling doubles; or (3) Paying $50. Unlike the standard rules, you may try to roll doubles and, failing to do so, pay the $50 on the same turn and moving ahead the number on the dice as thrown.

Houses - after all properties of a given colour group are collected by a player, houses may be installed at an even distribution throughout the group(breakdown must be done in the same manner)

A transaction (ie intent to buy house, or buying a house) may take place between turns. The start of a “turn” is marked by the throwing of the dice. If players declare the desire to buy hotels at the same time as the dice are rolled, the banker will judge the validity of the transaction, and their decision will be final. Players can conduct a transaction between turns; you do not have to wait until it is your turn to buy and sell houses.

Collecting rent - is the responsibility of the landlord. If the dice are rolled before the landlord notices that rent is due, then no rent is paid.

No “Free Rides” will be allowed as part of trade deals.

Rent on unimproved properties - is double the amount shown when all of a colour group is owned even if one is mortgaged. No rent is collected on the mortgaged property.

Property - must be unimproved before it can be sold or traded (i.e. houses may not be sold with the property), or be turned over in a bankruptcy.

Hotels - may be purchased as the fourth house in the short game, rent however, remains the same as for a hotel

Bankruptcy - all debt must be paid in cash! An assessment of an individual’s holdings must be made to determine if sufficient resources exist to pay the debt. In the event that sufficient cash cannot be raised, houses and hotels must be sold back to the bank, unmortgaged properties are left unmortgaged, and ALL properties and cash are turned over to the player to whom the debt is owed.

Tie-Breaking - In the unlikely event that a tie should occur, any ties will be broken with one roll of the dice by each of the tied players.
